Memoria manet (The memory remains)

20 x 16 inches

This is a painting of Tom, a guy I met in a heavy metal pub in Camden. The title, which I have had translated into Latin, is taken from one of Tom's favourite Metallica songs.

V&A drawing

I finally did a drawing of one my favourite views in London - the view from the balcony of the Medieval and Renaissance Gallery at the V&A. With its classical sculptures, ornate doorways and working fountain, it feels a courtyard in Florence - albeit one just off the Cromwell Road.

Framed silks

Someone who bought some of my silks has had them framed, and kindly sent me some pics. I'm thrilled with the results. I've always loved framed fabrics, from Victorian samplers to needlepoint pictures. So much thought, care and time is invested in these fabrics; the frame seems to heighten how precious they are. I usually show my work unframed, I love how the fabric moves of its own accord. But looking at these pics I could get used to frames too.

Barbican Conservatory

Pencil on paper, 29.7 x 42 cm

Barbican conservatory is one of my favourite places in London. A palm house perched on top of a concrete tower block, it feels a bit like stepping into a JG Ballard book. One where the plants are the victors. I drew this pic as a wedding gift for my pals Karen and Charlie. They have just moved back to London from Africa, so a city jungle felt just about right.
